Nielsen: Americans have 28 percent more mobile apps in 2012, look down on the web with disdain

It’s not hard to see that Americans love their mobile apps , and Nielsen can now tell us by how much. The average US smartphone owner circa mid-2012 now brandishes 41 apps, a pretty hefty 28 percent increase from a year earlier.

HTC Admits To Tweaking Sense 4.0 Memory Management

HTC Sense 4.0 is the company’s latest iteration for custom UIs which we first met at MWC , as it was launched on the new One line. It is present on all One-series phone which includes the International One X as well as the AT&T version .

Canadians sometimes can’t catch a break: while NFC payments have been relatively common for Americans , Europeans and certainly the Japanese , Canucks have had to largely make do paying with ye olde credit carde. Rogers and national bank CIBC want to put an end to these antediluvian ways: starting later this year, CIBC card holders will just need to swipe an NFC-equipped BlackBerry like the Bold 9900 ( Bold 9930 for CDMA-loving Americans) at a matching terminal to pay at a given store.

Before the release of the HTC One X , S and V, HTC was making the rounds, touting Sense 4.0 as the lightest, leanest version of their Android skin ever . We were inclined to believe them after seeing how zippy and kicky fast Sense was, not only real world usability tests, but in benchmarks as well.

HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE Shipping with Custom Software Builds To Work Around Apple Patent

So, yesterday, we learned that the AT&T HTC One X and Sprint’s upcoming HTC EVO 4G LTE had been delayed in the US due to Apple’s how-the-hell-did-it-get-granted “link” patent. Patent #5,946,647 deals with the now standard Android method of clicking a link (like in email) and being presented with a menu displaying a list of apps you want to launch from there. Apparently, Apple’s got this locked down.

LG’s Optimus LTE2 ships this week in Korea, nails down a few more specs

Just in case the world forgot which phone was first with 2GB of RAM, LG has pushed out another press release for its Optimus LTE2 which ships this week in Korea, just as promised. The detailed specs reveal this version ships with a 4.7-inch True HD IPS LCD , and while many of its specs (8MP camera, 1.5GHz dual-core CPU) are identical to its predecessor, it weighs in at an extra 10g, likely owing to the larger 2,150mAh battery.

Google I/O Sessions Calendar Now Available – Start Planning Now

For the lucky few developers that were quick enough to get their hands on one of Google’s golden tickets, and will be attending Larry Page’s Chocolate Factory this year — otherwise known as Google I/O — the Sessions calendar is now available for you to scan, and schedule your trip accordingly. Looking through the scheduled sessions and events, there were no real giveaways on what will be announced at this year’s keynote, but I did rather enjoy the clever wording on Day 3′s “For Butter or Worse: Smoothing out Performance in Android UI’s.” Ah, those Google guys… they just “get” me.
