( Feel free to click around the Lytro image if you are bored .) This morning, our boy Ron wrote up his opinion on the “fanboy” situation that plagues almost every tech community. Whether you own an iOS or Android or Blackberry device, someone is bound to call you a fanboy because you chose one over the other.
Microsoft is looking to bolster sales of Windows-powered computers this summer by offering students a free Xbox 360 video game console with a qualifying PC purchase. Beginning on May 18th in Canada and on May 20th in the United States, students who purchase a PC for at least $599 CAD in Canada or $699 in the U.S.

In an update that comes down from the top, straight from Microsoft’s Windows Phone officials that is, users will have to move to the Mango update for the mobile OS or get cut off entirely from the app Marketplace. This move is specifically for the smartphone-based software while large apps and games will still be able to be downloaded using Zune software as noted by Windows Phone’s Mazar Mohammed.

Updated. Apple iPad owners have the $10 AirDisplay app to use their tablet as a second monitor for their Mac, but Android owners aren’t left out in the cold.

Nokia may be trying to make a comeback in the smartphone world by pairing with Microsoft and leveraging Windows Phone, but analysts are concerned that the company may be burning through its cash reserves too fast. Last quarter the Finnish smartphone manufacturer reported a $1.7 billion loss, and analysts fear the company may not be able to stop hemorrhaging money.

The Facebook IPO is expected to usher in a day of massive trading volumes on the markets, and some believe that might translate to a lift for some tech stocks . But one that could really use some help has just been served another course of bad press: Nokia is apparently burning through its cash reserves — fast.
Chris McDermott, Ben Darvill and Russell Hepton created this concept design artwork and video for a product that works with the Windows Phone system as well as Metro-style tablets to easily link devices to a TV, Projector, etc. and then control the remote display with a phone or tablet. The design was nominated for a D&AD digital design award. Of course these images are just design concepts and explorations that aren’t really part of any type of product currently in development however it’s still an interesting project and it’s certainly good to see skilled designers taking a liking to Microsoft’s “Metro” style of design innovation.
