It’s been a busy week for Android enthusiasts. After a scare from Google and Verizon, we can rest better this weekend knowing that our Galaxy Nexus devices will continue to be supported by Google.

How was that for a relatively calm week in Android news? Despite a last minute scare the Google might be stripping of Galaxy Nexus of its Nexus-given rights (thankfully there was another explanation), we managed to make it through without too much drama.

Google Issues Statement Regarding CDMA Nexus Devices

We reached out to Google to see if we could get some clarification or reasoning as to why CDMA devices would no longer be “supported” as developer devices and they responded. Dan Morril, an Android engineer who you may be familiar with, provided an explanation at this Google Group’s page : Hello! This is a quick clarification about support for CDMA devices.

A quick visit to the Android developer support page reveals some startling news. It appears as if Google is dropping the “developer device” tag of once-listed CDMA models.

Some of you may have noticed that the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus is no longer listed as a supported, official developer device by Google. Despite rumors to the contrary, it doesn’t appear this has anything to do with the kerfuffle over Wallet , but instead centers around technical issues relating to the APK files required for CDMA connectivity and the signing of those libraries.

  Update :  So rather than make you read through this long drawn out mess, we decided to post a summary to get you up to speed since a number of folks are still coming to this specific post. This afternoon, a reader of ours noticed that the Android Developer pages were updated to show that they no longer support CDMA devices.
