Don’t Write Windows Phone’s Obituary Just Yet, Samsung’s New Focus 2 Is A Winner [REVIEW] (T, MSFT)

The Samsung Focus 2 4G LTE pleasantly surprised me. I’ve had it for about a week now and I don’t want to give it back.

Frustrations of a Windows Phone User

Those who know my work know that I’ve been a big fan of Windows Phones since I first got my hands on a Samsung Taylor developer prototype.  There are a lot of reasons to love Windows Phone , but as you might expect with any technology there can also be some frustrations.  In this article we’ll talk about a few annoyances about Windows Phone that I personally have been frustrated with, however if you’re also a Windows Phone user, we’d love to hear about a few of your frustrations in the comments at the bottom of the page. The first big thing about Windows Phone that frustrates me every day is the inability to compose and send text messages from a Windows PC.  Back in the days of Windows Mobile 6 I could plug my phone into my computer, load up Jeyo Mobile Companion and have a full PC-based interface with a full keyboard and full access to all of my SMS messages.  I could type SMS messages to all of my friends without even touching my phone.  It was extremely convenient.  If I received an SMS, I would see it right away on the computer screen and I could reply to it right there.  No need to even look at my phone sitting on the desk.  None of the latest smartphones are capable of this either… including Windows Phone (unless maybe you primarily use Google Voice or Skype).  What’s worse is there’s still no way to archive text messages like we could with Windows Mobile.

AT&T has no shortage of value-priced phones, and just lately, a pretty good selection of 4G LTE devices as well. But the two haven’t crossed over much yet, and the ranks of Windows Phone 7 devices are a little slim as well.

Motorola skipping Ice Cream Sandwich for some devices, worries it’ll make them fat

Despite Motorola’s Android 4.0 rollout schedule , not every one of the manufacturer’s devices are ready for dessert — some, the outfit says, will be put on a diet. “Obviously we want the new release to improve our devices,” the company said in a recent blog post, “If we determine that can’t be done, well, then we’re not able to upgrade that particular device.” Handsets that are bogged down by Ice Cream Sandwich simply won’t get an update.

Your smartphone and / or tablet is just begging for an update. From time to time, these mobile devices are blessed with maintenance refreshes, bug fixes, custom ROMs and anything in between, and so many of them are floating around that it’s easy for a sizable chunk to get lost in the mix.

As expected, the phone is officially on sale today at AT&T retailers across the US, giving folks another option aside from the flagship Lumia 900 for a fix of LTE and Mango on the network.

Voyager Mobile shakes off network issues, launches a few days behind schedule

It’s tough being the new kid in town — ask Voyager Mobile, an up and coming MVNO that had its launch delayed by a “malicious network attack” last week. The tenacious firm may have missed its planned May 15th launch , but managed to pull things together in time for the weekend, piggybacking unlimited talk, text and data off of Sprint’s CDMA and WiMAX network for $40 a month.
