ComScore: Android and iOS gallop ahead, US smartphone usage approaches 100 million

The latest report is in from ComScore , and as you might expect, the news is sunshine and roses for the crews at Google and Apple. Both companies platforms charted some worthwhile month-over-month gains, as Android is estimated to account for 47.3 percent of smartphones in the US, while iOS runs a strong second with 26.9 percent.

How was that for a relatively calm week in Android news? Despite a last minute scare the Google might be stripping of Galaxy Nexus of its Nexus-given rights (thankfully there was another explanation), we managed to make it through without too much drama.

One notable result was that total annual global shipments of smart phones exceeded those of client PCs (including pads) for the first time.

Shareware Site Tucows Launches Cheap Wireless Service in Conjunction With Sprint

The folks at Tucows, who was once know for their applications (free, shareware or otherwise) repository for desktop operating systems and they are now reintroducing a new venture that’s interesting, to say the least. With the help of Sprint they have launched Ting, a pay-as-you-go service that gives users extremely good value.

Apple’s iTV launch reportedly hampered by display availability

Apple has been widely rumored to be readying a Siri-enabled television for release this year, but a new report claims component availability issues will prevent the highly anticipated “iTV” from launching in the first half. Citing unnamed sources within Apple’s supply chain, DigiTimes on Friday reports that Sharp, rumored to have been contracted to supply display panels for Apple’s debut HDTV, is not yet ready to ship the indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panels Apple will use in its iTV.
