Virgin Mobile Pay As You Go!

March 22, 2008

Vmu LogoVirgin mobile has been on the market for a little while and I think they offer a great service, which is a wide variety of plans without annual contracts. Plans without contracts and pay as you go definitely have there place. A lot of people don’t spend a lot of time chatting on there cell phone or you don’t want to pay the activation fees associated with starting up a new cell phone. Let’s be honest here people, when we start up a new cell phone plan there is always expensive fees, charges, and taxes. Also, lets not forget that these fees, charges, and taxes continue every month-we know this all to well. Virgin mobile also has no credit checks, no roaming or long distance charges, and you can switch your current number over. Not everyone has good credit and let’s face it a lot of people feel like they need to have a cell phone in emergency situations.

That being said, 20$ will give you 200 minutes at 10cents a min, 30$ will give you 400 minutes at 7.5cents a minutes and 50$ will get you 1000 minutes at 5cents a minute. These rates are very competitive, you can Top-Up your minutes directly on there website or phone them. If users do not use all there minutes up in 30 days they will lose them however, if you buy another pack of minutes within 30 days, any unused minutes will roll forward for the next 30 days (up to 5000 minutes). I’m a big fan of Virgin mobile it’s versatile it doesn’t lock you in to a big long plan and there are reasonable priced cell phones. Sometimes people just need the basics and Virgin mobile provides that and more if your willing to pay more money for fancy phones and there plans.

AT&T

March 22, 2008

Cing LogoA buddy of mine the other day was asking me to help him find a new free cell phone. When your in a bind and you need a cell phone and you don’t want to shell out the big bucks for an iPhone or a Treo and you just want the basics you gotta go with the free stuff. We went through all the major carriers Sprint, T-mobile and the list goes on and on! After reviewing a lot of the free cell phones each carrier had to offer I was impressed by AT&T they have a wide variety of free cell phones (of course you have to sign up for a plan people-we don’t get something for nothing). But it is wroth a shot to give www.wireless.att.com a good look through as my friend and I found a number of pretty nice free cell phones that include all the basics and more.

I Phone. Rehash

March 20, 2008

IphoneI know I Phone is old news sorta. But I was just thinking about back in “the day” when cell phones were so big they came in a briefcase. People would carry around there cell phone/briefcase to talk on the phone. Anyone out there who had one of those suckers and use to lug them around? I can’t even imagine the looks you would get from people pulling out your cell phone/briefcase in your local Starbucks. Seriously, people would think you are totally insane. I even remember the grey brick cell phones–I saw one the other day, some guy was walking and chatting on his phone and I was like god that thing is huge and very ugly. Anyways, the I phone has come a long way to say the least. Back in “the day” I bet they could not even imagine a cell phone like the I phone, downloading hit t.v. shows, music, pictures, maps and the list goes on and on. wow! I can’t wait until the 2nd generation I phone comes out.

The Nokia 3555 is similar to the Nokia 6555 minus the HDSPA capability. In brief, the Nokia 3555 is a thin, high-tech phone that lets users connect to the mobile world in style. Boasting of high-end features despite its small size, the Nokia 3555 has a VGA camera with portrait viewfinder to enable users take portrait photos of themselves easily and more effectively. The camera is even better with a 4x digital zoom which let users take photos even without going closer to the subject. The Nokia 3555 is a sleek and slim mobile phone that users would be proud to show off to their friends despite being an entry level Nokia model. Connecting your phone to the computer can be done without the need for wires through the Nokia 3555’s Stereo Wireless Bluetooth technology. The Nokia 3555 also connects to the mobile internet through EDGE, GPRS and 3G. The Nokia 3555 is also a multimedia phone with support for video recording and streaming videos. Nokia 3555 users can also chat with their friends and family through AOL, ICQ and Yahoo instant messaging services. Other features of the Nokia 3555 include; various music format support (MP3, WMA, AAC), photo caller ID, easy text input, support for microSD card, various organizational tools such as calendar, alarm clock, calculator and phonebook and many more. The Nokia 3555 is powered by Lion battery that gives 3.4 talk hours and 11 days of standby time if charge fully. Available now with T-Mobile for $49.99 with service contract, the Nokia 3555 is definitely every penny that users would spend for this great mobile phone.

SE releases two full colored phones - W580 Jungle Green and W380 Tangerine Black

March 17, 2008

Sony Ericsson continues to introduce mobile phone models which don’t fall into your usual black, white, silver design. Probably to further attract users from the young generation, SE has released two new sleek and funky colored mobile phones- the W580i Jungle Green and W380 Tangerine Black.

W580 Jungle Green

The Sony Ericsson W580i is a shiny and stylish slider phone dressed up in Jungle green hues. Reminds you of those fatigue uniforms worn by marines and jungle fighters minus the camouflage look. Previously released in three variant colours – Boulevard Black, Urban Grey and Metro Pink, the W580i jungle green brings with it the same power packed features that you find in those three other color variants. The W580i is a sleek, slim, street style slider phone that belongs to the SE Walkman phone series. Hence it’s a portable music device too. Sony Ericsson experimented with the W580i a bit by making the 580i the first SE phone that responds to motion shake control. What this means is that users can select any song in their W580i playlist by flicking their wrist.
And since the W580i bears the “W” mark it definitely has all the nifty features of the SE Walkman phone brand. The W580i supports music tones, Play Now, polyphonic ringtones, flight mode, mega bass, FM radio and Track ID. Like all the other SE Walkman phone, the W580i lets users manage the music in their phone. With one click users would have instant access to the Walkman music player. And with Walkman music player it means all the nifty functions that we use to enjoy in our Sony Walkman can now be performed in the W580i mobile phone – play, rewind, fast forward, equalize, shuffle tracks and create playlist. The W580i is just like a Walkman player dressed up in a mobile phone. Plus of course, all the other mobile features of a high-end SE phone are also packed in the W580i. The SE W580i is packed with 2 megapixel camera, 4x digital zoom, picture blogging, video recording, 3D games and Java apps, Bluetooth and modem connectivity, RSS feeds, web browser, SMS and MMS and organizer features.

Sony Ericsson W380 Tangerine Black

w380_in_black.pngThe Sony Ericsson W380 which was previously released in electric purple, magnetic gray and Champaign black is now also available in Tangerine Black. The Tangerine Black version is almost the same as the previously released Champaign black except for an orange SE W phone logo at the back. The clam shell W380 is a toned down version of the W580i and also belongs to the SE Walkman phone series. Like the high end W580i, the W380 also supports motion shake control technology. However, the motion shake control in W380 is used for to mute an incoming call or put the alarm clock on snooze. It would definitely come in handy when you still want to continue sleeping and the alarm sounded off. You don’t have to open your eyes to find the button the will put the alarm in snooze mode. Aside from being a Walkman phone, the W380 is also a full mobile blogging device. The W380i lets you publish on your blog instantly, take snapshots and share it with your friends through your blog. It also supports RSS feeds so you can keep track of updates from your favourite blogs. Another distinguishing feature of the SE W380 is the music recognition technology. You can record a few seconds of music and TrackID returns the song name, artists and album to your phone in seconds. Since the W380 is a Walkman phone, you might sometime accidentally touch on the play music button. So to ensure that your music player will not open during unnecessary times, SE integrated a music player key lock. Other features of the W380 phone includes, megabass music, speakerphone, MMS, built-in digital camera with screen viewfinder, dedicated menus and direct interaction with in-phone imaging and messaging features. To help you manage your digital files such as music, photo and video clip, SE has thrown in a useful CD containing a software to manage your digital files. This software also lets you transfer music, videos and photos to and from your phone to your PC.
And like all the latest SE mobile phone, the W380 has a memory slot for a Memory Stick micro that supports up to 2GB of file storage capacity. So you don’t have to worry about running out of storage files whenever you are on vacation or attending an important event. You can take snapshots for how long you like and you can store it in your 2GB memory stick micro should you decide to upgrade to the standard memory stick micro pre-loaded with every new SE 380. And before I forget, yes the Tangerine version looks classically stunning too.

Nokia 6555 Review

September 30, 2007

nokia-6555-3g-phone.jpgNokia is one company that marches to its own beat. When the thin Motorola Razr was released, Nokia waited and then released the Nokia N76. Now Nokia is revisiting the slim handset with the new Nokia 6555 for AT&T. Though it’s thicker than most of the slim phones out there, its tall shape gives it a soundly elegant look.Features of the Nokia 6555: It has Bluetooth, a music/video player, and support for the Push-to-Talk (PTT) feature. Call quality was quite nice, but the talk time battery life was much too low. The 6555 sells for $49 with service. Read more

Cellphone Review: Motorola Razr2 V9

August 28, 2007

Motorola started the thin formfactor craze for cellphones with the Razr and looks to capitalize on that success with its next thin phone. Motorola is back with an improved Razr but does it have enough to warrant an upgrade?razrfront2.jpg razr2alternative.jpgFirst off, The Motorola Razr2 V9 is indeed a sexy phone sporting a black glass body with shiny keys and somewhat slightly wider profile. The glass like surface does attract its share of fingerprints but is sturdily built. It also has a built-in 2 megapixel camera that has some cool builtin effects. Take note that you can use the camera while the phone is closed acting like a digital mirror or to take a self portrait. The inner screen also holds some surprises, with a scratch resistant lcd that also supports 262,000 colors, and thus images look great as a result. They were bright, vibrant, and saturated with color. One minor complaint: Though you can adjust the backlight time, you can’t adjust the brightness or font size. Read more

2G iPhone in the Works?

July 17, 2007

iphone_nano_engadget-230.jpgRumors about a version 2 iPhone that have been around since May are experiencing a resurgence of popularity. Details from an article in DigiTimes talks about the Chinese-language Commercial Times based in Taiwan where a recent report was made about Taiwan-based Wintek getting touch screen panel orders from Apple for its second-generation iPhone. The report claims that this new iPhone will begin shipping in September for around $249 to $299, and that they have already started test production in small batches. Other Chinese-language sources have cited Quanta Computer as a possible manufacturer of the supposed second gen iPhone. Both Quanta and Wintek have declined to comment however.Whether or not there’s truth to the rumor, I’m sure everyone can appreciate a $249 iPhone. One personally hopes that something similar to that is in the works.[  The Second Generation iPhone? via EngadgetMobile ]

Cellphones: T-Mobile Sidekick iD Cnet Review

April 27, 2007

Cnet has a review up for T-Mobile’s new Sidekick iD. They felt that while the T-Mobile Sidekick iD does offers all the great messaging capabilities of the Sidekick 3 at half the price, the rest of the iD’s feature set is very limited and too barebones. It looks like the Sidekick iD will appeal to young, budget concious consumers.
