Yahoo launches search engine for iOS, Android apps

Yahoo launched a new category for its search engine this week that makes it easy to browse and find either iOS or Android apps. You’ll notice the addition of an “Apps” filter option above Yahoo’s search bar and a new portal that makes it easy to sift through apps by various categories and ratings lists.

Because apps are the answer to any woe, Yahoo is trying to turn people’s obsession with smartphone software into page views with the introduction of Android Market (and iOS) search results. An apps tab can now be found when using Yahoo to search the web.

Yahoo may be sliding down the search engine totem pole, but the company is doing its best to climb back up, with a new space dedicated to apps. This week, Yahoo added a new “Apps” tab to its search page, giving users a new portal into both the Android Market and iTunes App Store.

Android Market employs a Bouncer to keep malware out

Google is trying to addressing growing concerns about malware in Android Market with the f ormal unveiling of a scanning service called Bouncer that will attempt to weed out bad apps in its marketplace. The service has been apparently been running for some time now and has helped Google reduce the number of potentially-malicious downloads by 40 percent from the first half of 2011 to the second half.

Cartoon Wars Now Available In The Android Market

Originally released for iOS back in July of ’09, Cartoon Wars is finally hitting the Android Market today, courtesy of Gamevil who is offering the game free of charge. Mixing a healthy dose of tower defense and a sidescrolling RTS, Cartoon Wars gives players control of a small army where the player must carefully choose the units he/she will use when going into battle against the opposing force.

US Cellular announces Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S Aviator as first 4G LTE devices

US Cellular gave us a rough timeline of their 4G LTE device launches last month, pegging a tablet for March and a smartphone to follow in April. The regional carrier has announced exactly which devices we can expect: the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy S Aviator (a device appearing to be a rebranded Droid Charge).
