Cellphone: McLaren Mercedes phones to be launched by Vodafone

January 22, 2007

Samsung Z720Three new special edition phones carrying the McLaren Mercedes brand were recently launched by Vodafone. Vodafone is hoping that these new handsets will create some buzz for the McLaren Mercedes team as they are their sponsor in the upcoming Formula 1 season.

The three newly branded McLaren handsets are:

- McLaren Mercedes 770SH - 3G clamshell from Sharp
- McLaren Mercedes GX29 - 2G clamshell from Sharp
- McLaren Mercedes SGH-Z720M - this is the Samsung Ultra Edition

Though the concept of the Racing phones isn’t quite new. NASCAR themed handsets were launched by Nextel in the US several years ago. Whether this gimik will succeed is anyone’s guess, but special edition phones aren’t called special edition for nothing.
