Sprint Exec Reveals EVO 3D ICS Update Arriving Next Month

The HTC EVO 3D on Sprint is one of those phones where we’ve long known that the handset will be seeing an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich , but didn’t have a strong grasp on just when that might be. With the news that the Virgin Mobile version of the phone would come with ICS (and the related screw-up where many Sprint users flashed the leaked ROM for that phone onto their Sprint handsets, temporarily giving them Virgin branding without an obvious way to go back), you could probably make a safe bet that ICS would come to the EVO 3D sooner rather than later, but we still lacked official confirmation.

We managed to catch not one, but two of Sprint’s execs yesterday at CTIA Wireless 2012 : Director of Product Marketing John Tudhope and VP of Product David Owens. While our discussion was centered primarily around the company’s announcements at the show — Sprint Guardian, HTC’s EVO V 4G for Virgin Mobile and HTC’s EVO Design 4G for Boost Mobile — we were able to ask a few questions about the state of Sprint’s LTE deployment and the associated value proposition.

It looks like Virgin Mobile Canada could be rolling out a new set of tariffs, which seem to take as much as they give. According to the blurry promo materials received by Mobile Syrup the new Smartphone plans offer slightly fewer minutes, in exchange for an extra hour’s slice of “evening” time.

Sprint Product Exec: Launching LTE Devices Before Network Just Makes Sense

Sprint isn’t too concerned that it is selling LTE devices but has yet to officially launch the high-speed service anywhere in the U.S. “I think it is much to-do about nothing,” Sprint VP Fared Adib told AllThingsD in an interview on Tuesday.

While Sprint customers wait with bated breath for their new LTE network to go live, the nation’s third largest wireless carrier has just announced that their no-contract subsidiary Virgin Mobile will soon launch their first 4G phone. Starting on May 31, customers will be able to pick up their very own Evo V 4G from Virgin Mobile’s website, with a wider release to come in June.
