South African Carriers Hint a Q3 Galaxy S III Availability

The latest news regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III — after the manufacturer disappointed everyone by letting them know that there will be no Galaxy S II follow-up unveiling at MWC — came from Samsung Benelux which were inviting the press to a March 15 event . However, South African carriers seem to have information according to which the highly anticipated phone will land on their networks early-Q3.

Sprint posts net loss of $1.3 billion, adds 1.6M subscribers in Q4

Despite a net loss of $1.3 billion during the fourth quarter of 2011, Sprint’s latest earnings report was more positive than negative. The carrier added 1.6 million subscribers during the final months of the year, a good portion of which can be attributed to sales of the iPhone, which hit Sprint’s network back in October.

Tucows launches Ting, a contract-free mobile service on Sprint’s network

Harken back to the days of Windows 95, and you may remember downloading a few shareware titles to your Compaq or Packard Bell courtesy of Tucows and its network of mirror sites. While the company is no longer of much relevance in the software arena, it’s recently launched a mobile service called Ting that operates on Sprint’s network, and like many of its competitors (think Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile ), no contract is needed.

Virgin Mobile to slow heavy smartphone data users

Virgin Mobile will begin to reduce the mobile broadband speeds of smartphone users on March 23, following a similar path as T-Mobile, AT&T and others who have offered unlimited plans. Fierce Wireless notes that Virgin’s BeyondTalk subscribers using 2.5 GB of data in a given month will see 3G speeds reduced to 256 kbps for the remainder of that month’s billing cycle.

Virgin Mobile targets March 23rd to throttle data, take candy from children

It’s been a long time coming , but after much backpedaling , Virgin Mobile is throwing down the gauntlet — it’ll begin throttling data speeds come March 23rd. Like expected, each month that a user exceeds 2.5GB of data usage, he or she will have their downloads capped at 256Kbps for the remainder of the billing cycle.

ZTE Tania hits UK in February: Windows Phone on a budget

The ZTE Tania , potentially the cheapest Windows Phone to-date, will go on sale this quarter in the UK, the company has confirmed, with carrier Virgin Media expected to offer the 4.3-inch smartphone between £10-20 on-contract. Meanwhile, various retailers are offering the Tania - which we previewed yesterday  - for around £250 ($384) SIM-free and unlocked.

ZTE Tania arrives in the UK: a budget phone for budget buyers

ZTE’s showing off its new global ambitions, the OEM-smartphone maker brought a party bus to London and asked Professor Green (everyone’s favorite nasally-challenged Grime MC) to spread the word about the Tania . It’s a modestly-kitted 4.3-inch WVGA (800 x 480) Windows Phone, erm, phone, that’s running Mango on a single-core 1GHz chip, 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal storage.

Virgin Mobile (USA) To Begin Throttling 3% Of Data Hungry Customers In March

A few months ago we reported Virgina Mobile USA’s plans to begin throttling their customers back in October but that plan never came to fruition. Instead, Virgin Mobile delayed the inevitable throttling to sometime in 2012.
