Motorola updates ICS upgrade roadmap, Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX scheduled for Q2

Motorola has update their upgrade schedule for devices in the US giving us a better idea of when to expect Android 4.0 for a range of smartphones and tablets. Motorola DROID RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners will be first to see the official version of Ice Cream Sandwich along with the WiFi + 3G Motorola XOOM tablet this quarter.

Dish: Sure, we’ll build LTE, just give us four years

Dish Network has taken possession of its 4G spectrum and it’s ready to deliver the competitive mobile broadband network the American public has long been craving – in 2016. In a filing with the Federal Communications Commission, Dish basically asked the FCC for the granddaddy of all extensions for turning in its LTE network assignments, and its excuse was hardly more creative than “the dog ate my homework.” Dish is claiming that it must wait for the LTE standards body, the 3GPP, to validate its S-band satellite spectrum – now being called the Advanced Wireless Services 4, or AWS-4 band — for 4G use.

Microsoft: Windows Phone legacy users update, or else

In an update that comes down from the top, straight from Microsoft’s Windows Phone officials that is, users will have to move to the Mango update for the mobile OS or get cut off entirely from the app Marketplace. This move is specifically for the smartphone-based software while large apps and games will still be able to be downloaded using Zune software as noted by Windows Phone’s Mazar Mohammed.

Motorola DROID Bionic gets leaked 5.9.905 OTA

It looks like another build for the Motorola DROID BIONIC has leaked. It’s not Ice Cream Sandwich, but it is yet another update that should make the device that much smoother.

Verizon Unlimited Data need not end for you

This week we’re feeling the firestorm that’s surrounded Verizon’s double-announcement that they’d be effectively doing away with Unlimited Data plans by the end of this summer – but the whole truth is not that simple. Where many would read that headline and immediately assume Verizon was taking their precious away from them, there’s no reason to fret if you’re the sort of person that doesn’t want (or need) to pick up a new smartphone every couple of years.

Samsung Galaxy S III hits 9m pre-orders worldwide

Say what you will about the Galaxy S III , but Samsung is going to sell mountains of phones. The Korea Economic Daily is reporting that the Samsung Galaxy S III has already amassed around 9 million pre-orders with over 100 global carriers.
