The battle to dominate the mobile market has never been about smartphones. Android, iOS, and Windows Phone are attempts to use the most personal computers ever made to lock users into one ecosystem.

While most of us hate the litany of lawsuits that have become commonplace in the tech industry, one positive result has been revelations from emails, recorded transcripts, and testimonies that would have undoubtedly remained under wraps. Without the Skyhook lawsuit we wouldn’t have nearly as many details about the Android device approval process.

In 1997 two college kids started a company based on a pet project of theirs. Larry Page and Sergey Brin had worked together to create a search engine that bested every other competitor in every conceivable way.

Last week Motorola went on the record to blame Google’s Nexus program for the delay in software updates on its devices. A device manufacturer trying to explain why software updates are delayed is nothing new, but a device manufacturer that was recently purchased by the its software supplier blaming it’s new owner caught my eye.

Not long ago we’ve seen the ClockworkMod Touch Recovery being teased by Koush — for all you heavy modders and tweakers out there that want to use the touchscreen even while in Recovery — and we already have a growing list of supported devices. HTC devices like the EVO 4G, EVO 3D, Desire, Desire HD, Sensation, and Thunderbolt, Motorola Atrix 4G, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S (and S4G) already have support.
