April 30, 2007

In accordance with the EU’s emergency call legislation, BlueSky Positioning, a startup company, is launching the A-GPS SIM (Assisted Global Positioninh System) SIM card, which has an integrated GPS receiver and proprietary antenna into, which in turn would provide accurate locations in a timely and cost-effective manner.

This breakthrough product, which would cost would range from €100 and €500for a new handset, could very well advance location-based (LBS) services and accuracy based applications, such as, routing, bavigation, tracking, personal security, and zone-based billing, throughout the cellphone and wireless industry.

The SIM card’s A-GPS capability does not up eat up the cell phone’s battery charge and signal strength. As PhoneMag, writes, BlueSky Positioning A-GPS SIM uses an assistance data server in the mobile network to reduce the location identification time (Time To First Fix) and increase accuracy, particularly within buildings and densely populated areas. By embedding this accurate location capability in the end-user (U)SIM, SIM card manufacturers can enable swift and effective rollout and compliance and faster emergency response times.”
