Cingular’s first offering from Pantech will be the slim c300, measuring at 2.72 inches tall, 1.69 inches wide and only 0.76 inches thick with the flip closed. Disney to debut mobile digital comics service on Vodafone K.K. mobile phones

Walt Disney Internet Group Japan and Vodafone K.K. has just announced that they will offer Disney Mobile Comics, Disney’s digital comics service for mobile phones, on Vodafone live! starting June 1, 2006. Disney Mobile Comics will reportedly be the first-ever digital comic content for mobile phones, and will consist of three types of mobile comics for customers to enjoy. A total of 10 titles will be available from the time of launch including 6 Film Comics, including Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, 2 American Comics, including Chicken Little, and 2 Graphic Comics, including The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and The Aristocats.
More popular titles, including The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, and Cinderella, are planned to be included in the service for the future.
Verizon Wireless launches the LG VX8300

Verizon Wireless has just launched the LG VX8300, the replacement for the popular VX8100. Most of the features of the VX8300 are similar to its predeccesor but with new tricks such as the new stereo Bluetooth support. Other features of the handset include: EV-DO high-speed data, microSD card slot, 1.3 megapixel camera, a music player with dedicated playback keys and a 176 by 220 pixel screen with 362K colors.
Verizon Wireless is selling the LG VX8300 for $49.99 after a 2-year contract and $50 in instant savings.
HSDPA Network Launched in Korea

SK Telecom has launched the world’s first handset-based next-generation HSDPA network in cities across southern Korea using wireless broadband technology from LG-Nortel, a joint venture of LG Electronics and Nortel.
The report states that SK Telecom’s network is the first to provide HSDPA performance on handsets as well as data cards - hopefully translating to high-speed, broadband wireless services that will be available to subscribers using either a handset or laptop computer. The services include high definition video-on-demand, MP3 streaming, multi-user mobile gaming, video calling, multimedia messaging and a host of other high bandwidth services. SK Telecom’s service has branded the service “3G+” and will initially cover 25 cities across South Korea, with expansion plans to additional 59 cities planned by the end of the year.
From the press release: “The launch of our new brand ‘3G+’ marks the beginning of the world’s first handset-based HSDPA service. The brand will help familiarize users with HSDPA as we deliver a more sophisticated mobile lifestyle for our customers,” said Bang Hyung Lee, Executive Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer of SK Telecom. “We believe the widespread commercial service of HSDPA will bring new opportunities to SK Telecom as we accumulate the know-how of the more global W-CDMA technology-based cellular service in addition to our fully developed CDMA based service. And LG-Nortel has been instrumental in helping us achieve this success in a very short timescale”

The UMTS enabled 6234 is the successor to the Nokia 6230i and features an integrated 2 megapixel camera with a 8x digital zoom, 262K color screen, 64MB microsd included, it only weighs 110 grams, UKW stereo, music player and can also be used to watch Vodafone Mobile TV and make Vodafone Music Downloads. The Nokia 6234 has an internal 6 MB memory to store files of all formats, plus a microsd expansion slot. It also has Bluetooth, Infrared and USB connectivity.
The Nokia 6234 is available in conjunction with a Vodafone customer contract in the Vodafone At Home CombiPackage 250 tariff with 24-month minimum term, one-off connection fee of EUR 25 and low-cost connection charges.

Sony Ericcson announces the walkman phone W42S

Sony Ericsson has released their first walkman phone W42S for Japan’s KDDI telco last week. It features a whopping 1GB internal memory built in, support for memory stick duo up to 4GB, a jog dial similar to the minidiscman, a 2.2 inch 240 by 320 262K color screen and FM receiver. You can transfer the music files from your pc to the phone via USB cradle and SonicStage software. The included music player support music formats like ATRAC3plus, ATRAC3, WAV, MP3, WMA and AAC. Additionally, Sony Ericcson is reportedly mulling an ultra hard coat layer on the screen to add additional protection.

Cell phone radiations ‘excite’ brain

Another day, Another study on cellphone side effects. The latest one says that your phone may excite parts of your brain but falls short of saying if thats a good or bad thing. IBN Live reports:
“A new study by Italian researcher that investigates the effects of mobile phone emissions on the motor cortex has found that electromagnetic fields generated by cell phones produce an increase in excitability within the brain’s cortex.” The study by a team of researchers led by Paolo Maria Rossini, a neurologist with the Fatebenefratelli IRCCS Research Centre of Brescia, said that further research was needed to know whether this ‘excitability’ was potentially dangerous or beneficial to brain functioning.
… “We still do not know whether this effect is neutral or potentially dangerous or beneficial to brain functioning,” Discovery News quoted him, as saying.
