Vodafone Extends Mobile Music Catalogue to 500,000 Music Tracks

Although “one millionnnn dollars…” (apologies to Dr. Evil) doesn’t seem a whole lot these days when we talk about big corporate companies such as Vodafone, one million full music tracks downloaded onto cell phones is a big deal. Vodafone announced today that they’ve extended their mobile music catalogue to 500,000 music tracks and that one million full music tracks have been downloaded since the launch of full music downloads across a full range of new 3G handsets in November 2004.

LG to Introduce Five Megapixel Camera Phone

LG, the world’s fifth-largest manufacturer of mobile phones, has announced that it will release a 5-megapixel camera phone in the second quarter 2005. The 5-megapixel LG camera phone will likely incorporate a camera module supplied by Japan’s Asahi Pentax that was announced in October, 2004. The camera phone will likely be first introduced in South Korea where more than three-quarters of the 48 million population have mobile phones.
Samsung Demonstrates Push-to-All Conferencing

This total mobile communications solution incorporates the existing PTT (Push-to-Talk) one to multi-user voice technology with the one to multi-user video conferencing ability of PTV (Push-to-View) and multimedia file sharing function of PTD (Push-to Data).

Sprint’s first digital quad-band phone, the Samsung IP-A790 was announced on February 24, 2005. When used in conjunction with a subscriber identity module (SIM) card, the Sprint PCS International Phone IP-A790 by Samsung allows customers to make voice calls on both CDMA and GSM networks. The phone also functions as a multimedia device on the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network so customers can view on-demand streaming video and audio and shoot video clips with the embedded camera and camcorder. The IP-A790 by Samsung will be available beginning in March for a suggested retail price of $549.99.

Ok, this is neat: Yahoo SMS driving instructions to your cell phone. How many people use Yahoo maps or Mapquest? Probably much more than those who use Yahoo Driving Directions which give you block-by-block driving instructions. Trouble was, you had to print it out and take it with you. But now you can go to Yahoo Driving Directions and hit the “send to phone” link and have driving instructions sent to your SMS-enabled cell phone. Maps can also be accessed for those with more advanced phones and a data plan. This should increase the visibility and use of Yahoo Driving Directions.
