Verizon to Release Military Green LG enV
August 28, 2007
Behold the LG enV in all its drab military olive-ness. Ok, it’s not quite as sensible as the silver and black variant, or as blinding as the bright orange VX9900, but you gotta admit… it’s different. One might assume that, since they’re releaseing a new color variant, sales for the VX9900 might be quite good. This variant of the phone, which like its cousins sports a small display and the usual number keypad on the outside, but carries a bigger screen and QWERTY keyboard within, might do well in the jungle where it might be camouflaged, but we’re not to sure it would look quite attractive on the side of one’s face in the city. No release date has been mentioned as yet. Watch this space for updates.

Open Source iPhone Unlocking Software for $100,000
August 28, 2007
That’s what this particular blogger is saying anyway. They’re offering $100,000 to anyone who would share their unlocking software with the world. And since this person will not be selling it, technically give it away to the world, supposedly it will be legal-battle free from AT&T. Whether those who supposedly have the software solution to AT&T’s iPhone dictatorship will actually settle for $100,000 is anyone’s guess. If this post is genuine, and truly legal-issue free, it might just be a good idea. Open source it to the world, gentlemen!

Teen Trades Unlocked iPhone for 3 8GB iPhones and a Nissan 350z
August 28, 2007
George Hotz, who painstakingly worked on and blogged all the steps it took him and his team to unlock what seems to be the world’s most sought after phone, has just cashed-in. The 17-year old from New Jersey was contacted by Terry Diadone, CertiCell’s founder, who traded 3 locked 8GB iPhones and one Nissan 350Z for the unlocked unit. While some might think this act could be selling himself, and his team / friends short (which some of his readers do), I think it’s a good pay-off for him personally. However, if I did own an unlocked iPhone, I’m pretty sure I’d be settling for more money than the total value of all that stuff.

Cellphone Review: Motorola Razr2 V9
August 28, 2007
Motorola started the thin formfactor craze for cellphones with the Razr and looks to capitalize on that success with its next thin phone. Motorola is back with an improved Razr but does it have enough to warrant an upgrade?
First off, The Motorola Razr2 V9 is indeed a sexy phone sporting a black glass body with shiny keys and somewhat slightly wider profile. The glass like surface does attract its share of fingerprints but is sturdily built. It also has a built-in 2 megapixel camera that has some cool builtin effects. Take note that you can use the camera while the phone is closed acting like a digital mirror or to take a self portrait. The inner screen also holds some surprises, with a scratch resistant lcd that also supports 262,000 colors, and thus images look great as a result. They were bright, vibrant, and saturated with color. One minor complaint: Though you can adjust the backlight time, you can’t adjust the brightness or font size. Read more

Dialing and Driving Safe according to new study
August 26, 2007
Two UC-Berkely graduate students have taken it upon themselves to break from conventional wisdom in announcing the findings of their study. According to them, there is “no match in the evening cell phone use spike and [car] crash data.” Despite the rise in cell phone use, from 140 minutes a month in ‘93 to 740 minutes a month at present, the number of fatal accidents have dropped for the same period. The findings do not, however, give you license to keep using your cellphone while driving. Don’t dial and drive.
